Ladies Perfume Categories: A Look At The Fragrance Wheel
Are you going to attend a party a few days from now and would want to look and smell gorgeous? Or are you going on a dinner date with someone really special and would want to leave a good and sexy impression on that person? Then, you need to know the different categories of ladies perfume, which you can go over in selecting the right one for you. Perfumes are mixtures of fragrant essential oils and aroma compounds, solvents, and fixatives. These are used to give the human body, animals, objects, and living spaces a nice and pleasant smell.
In choosing the right ladies perfumes, you can make use of the fragrance wheel. This tool is a relatively new type of method that is widely used in retail and in the perfume industry. This method was developed in 1938 by Michael Edwards. He was a perfume industry consultant who made and designed his own scheme of scent classification. This new scheme was developed in order to simplify the classification of fragrances and naming scheme. This was also developed to portray the relationships between each of the individual varieties of fragrances or scents.
The five standard families or classifications that compose the fragrance wheel are Oriental, Floral, Fresh, and Fougére. The families that are considered to be “classic” would be Floral, Oriental, Woody, and Fougére. On the other hand, Fresh is made up of newer bright and clean smelling citrus and oceanic fragrances that have arrived due to recent developments in fragrance technology. Each individual family is then divided into sub-groups and arranged around a wheel. The use of the fragrance wheel would really come handy in picking the right perfumes for women.
Aside from the families categorized in the fragrance wheel, new and recent categories have also been created through the use of advances in the technology utilized in perfume creation as well as the natural development of styles and tastes. These new classifications have emerged to describe modern scents used in perfume for ladies.
These include:
Bright Floral, which is a combination of the traditional Single Floral and Floral Bouquet categories. An example of which would be Estée Lauder’s Beautiful, possibly the best ladies perfume in this category, at least according to sales and popularity.
Green is a lighter and more modern interpretation of the Chypre type along with pronounce cut grass, crushed green leaf and cucumber-like scents; Aquatic otherwise known as Oceanic or Ozonic is the most recent category. This has a very clean and modern smell leading to many of the modern androgynous perfumes.
Next would be Citrus. This is an old fragrance family that until recently consisted of “freshening” eau de colognes because of the low tenacity of citrus scents.
Fruity is another classification of womens perfume which features fruit aromas other than citrus, examples of which are peach, cassis, mango, and passion fruit.
Last would be Gourmand. These scents are characterized by “edible” or “dessert”-like qualities. These are usually composed of notes like vanilla, tonka bean, and coumarin.
After going over these categories, you are now more knowledgeable of what parfum spray would best fit your body chemistry and personality. Finding the perfect perfumes for ladies is so much easier once you know what’s behind them!
